When larger size and higher pressure ball valves are needed, trunnion ball valves appear. The trunnion ball is fixed in the main body through the bottom trunnion (short connecting rod) and the top rod. Due to the inability of the ball to float into the valve seat for reliable closure, the valve seat must float onto the ball. The design of the trunnion seat causes it to be excited by upstream pressure and forced into the sphere for sealing. Because the ball is firmly held in place, apart from its 90° rotation, extraordinary fluid forces and pressure will not clamp the ball into the valve seat. On the contrary, the force only acts on a small area around the floating seat.

    The trunnion ball valve adopts a double piston effect design, and the pressure acts on the outer side of the end of the valve seat sealing ring, forming an effective seal between the seat sealing ring and the body. When fully open and fully closed, the sealing surfaces of the ball and valve seat are isolated from the medium, so the medium passing through the valve at high speed will not cause erosion of the sealing surface.

      Cast WCB carbon steel (general application), forged A105 carbon steel (general application), 304/316 stainless steel, alloy (corrosion resistance, extreme conditions), etc.
    • Valve Stem Material :
      When the valve body material is ordinary carbon steel, the valve stem material is usually CR13 series martensitic stainless steel (American standard 410 and 420 stainless steel materials) or higher-grade austenitic stainless steel materials. When the valve body material is stainless steel, the valve stem material is usually austenitic stainless steel (American standard SS304, SS316) with a grade no lower than the valve body material and a higher grade corrosion-resistant alloy material (Hastelloy, Monel, Inconel alloy) etc.
    • Valve ball material:
      The valve stem material is basically the same as the valve ball, plus carbon steel electroplating ENP anti-corrosion material, unless there are special requirements.

      The metal-sealed metal valve seat and fixed soft-sealed valve seat support ring of the ball valve should be made of the same material as the ball.
